Yesterday morning we had a minor snow storm here in Colorado Springs! It’s quite a change from the awesome Indian Summer weekend that we just had. Now that it is going to be cold and stay cold, I recommend that every homeowner get their furnace cleaned and serviced.

Most people don’t even change their furnace filters–ever! Ewwww. Think about it! The purpose of the filter is to trap dust and particles from going into the furnace vent and into your families respiratory systems. If the filter is old and clogged, the furnace loses a lot of its efficiency and a lot of crud is still getting into your lungs.

To change your furnace filter, simply open the front or side panel of the furnance. Then slide the old filter out. Make note of the size that is written on the side. You can buy more at any home inprovement store like Home Depot . It makes sencse to just buy 6 or 8 of them when you are there so you only have to buy them once a year. Then slide the new filter inside, put the panel back on and you’re done.

A licensed heating contractor such as Fountain Valley Mechnical can come to your home to do a furnce clean and service for a fee of approximately $89.95.

Having a furnace cleaned and serviced can prolong the life of your furnace as well as the lives of your family! A carbon monoxide leak due to a cracked heat exchanger can be deadly. The furnce company will check for this problem when they come to your home. Be sure to keep copies of all of your receipts as this is helpful when you put your home on the market for sale.

Keeping up with minor home maintenance can give you confidence that your home is safe for you family as well as energy efficient. A clean furnace doesn’t have to work as hard and therefore saves money on utility bills. Go ahead and call a qualified contractor today. Your health and well being are potentially at stake!
