Hometown Fun! I Love A Parade!

This morning the 2009 Coronado High School Homecoming parade was held in Old Colorado City. In My opinion, this is a great example of community in Colorado Springs. This parade has been rolling down Colorado Avenue since 1981 when the Class of 82 organized the first “official” parade. This years parade included homemade floats, the Coronado band, athletes and of course the requisite Homecoming Court riding in Corvettes. Of course my favorite part was the Alumni float that I rode on.

Why is all of this important? It really connects the community. Those of us who grew up on the west side understand how special it is. Ask the people on the east side of Colorado Springs when they last got together with friends they have had for 30 or 40 years. I am betting they have not done it recently. Westsiders are different. They are fortunate enough to live in such a town within a town. The Old Colorado City area is quite special! People know each other. They care about each other. They stay connected and the parade is a prime example of that.

The local newspaper, the Gazette ran a great story this afternoon giving all of the details. It said that this was the biggest parade of its kind in the state this year. This is a wonderful testimony to the westside residents and those who have to wish that they lived there!
